But the vloopback module is no longer maintained. And it does not compile under my kernel 2.6.17. There are following errors:

Yes, you're right - that version will no longer compile - however there is a new release on the vloopback website - http://www.lavrsen.dk/twiki/bin/view/Motion/VideoFourLinuxLoopbackDevice

I've not created an ebuild for it though, but it does work.
